Weeping Over Disobedience | Judges 2:1-5
This Sunday we look at chapter 2 of Judges and begin to see a major theme in the book: disobedience. The people of God had failed to drive out the enemies of God. Although God has promised never to break the covenant he has made with his people, his people have broken the covenant and deserve punishment. The reality is that there has only been one person who has been faithful to the covenant and he took the punishment we deserved for breaking the covenant. Now in Jesus, those by faith are included in the blessings of one who has been faithful to the covenant.

Despised & Rejected By Men | John 7:1-13
    Series: I AM
We started a new section of teaching in John 7 as we talk about a new Jewish festival, the Feast of Tabernacles, that Jesus teaches at. In these verses we see the rejection of Jesus both by his family and by the people of Judea. What is surprising about this passage is that the very things that the people are doing to celebrate the festival to remember what God had done for them are rejecting the very God himself as he walks among them.

Giving the Enemy Ground | Judges 1:16-36
This Sunday we finish the first chapter of Judges. It is surprising and telling that as we end with the first chapter we already see the them of the book: unfaithfulness. God's people have failed to drive out the people God had commanded. Now becuase of their unfaithfulness, God's people will reap the consequences of their disobedience. This will lead Israel to cry out for a deliver when these people rise up against them. This will lead us to the Judges of Israel but it more so points us to the greater deliverer Jesus Christ.

Will Ye Also Go Away? | John 6:60-71
    I AM sermon-01
We finish up chapter 6 and Jesus collection of teaching contained therein. It is so interesting how when people hear of Jesus' teaching that many end up leaving him. That is what happened with many disciples who were following Jesus and he asks the Twelve if they wanted to leave also. We pray that our response will be like Peter who said, "where else can we go?" Jesus is the only one who has the words of eternal life and he is the only one worth following to the end.

Slaying the Giants | Judges 1:8-15
    life-in-chaos-01
This Sunday we continued in the first chapter of Judges and looked at more of how Judah began to conquer the land God had promised to them. Despite the fact that the people they were fighting were giants, they continued to trust God and to take the land. We see multiple people living out their faith in God as they continued to obey God despite how intimidating it must have been to fight these giants. Luckily, even though Jesus Christ was intimidated in the garden by the task before him, he chose to do God's will and to bring salvation to all those who believe in him.

Eating Flesh & Drinking Blood | John 6:41-59
    Series: I AM

    I AM sermon-01

This Sunday we continue to follow the section of John 6 where Jesus talks about him being the bread of life. The Jews do not like Jesus doing this, but Jesus is trying to show them something important about himself and what he has come to do. They know that Jesus saying he is the bread that comes from heaven is a divine statement to make. Jesus goes on to explain that anyone who eats of his flesh and drink his blood will live forever.

God Delivers from Chaos | Judges 1:1-7
    life-in-chaos-01
This Sunday we started our new series through the book of Judges. If you would like to see our pastor explain the outline of the book you can go to our blog. In this first sermon we pick up the story of the Bible from where Joshua ends. Joshua has died but people still need to be removed from the land. The Lord calls Judah to finish the task, to bring God's promises of a new land to Israel. We find out that Judah is pretty important in the Bible. David the king will come from Judah's line and so will Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ will come as the fulfillment of God's promises not only to deliver his people from chaos but also to give them a new land where there will be no more pain or chaos.

I AM the Bread of Life | John 6:22-40
    Series: I AM
    I AM sermon-01
This Sunday we talked about a major I AM statement of Jesus, that he is the Bread of Life. We all know what hunger and thirst feels like in our lives and we know that no matter how much we eat or drink we will at some point need more food and drink. Often times we are so concerned about the temporal things in life. The people talking to Jesus were concerned with the same thing and believed that the Manna that their fathers received came from Moses. Jesus had to show them that their food ultimately came from God and it is God who is sending them Bread from Heaven. Jesus comes to satisfy our deepest longings and to give us a thirst and hunger for him alone.

    we believe sermon series
This Sunday we finish our last sermon in the We Believe series. We have looked at all the articles, sometimes having multiple sermons per article, and have finally reached the end. This Sunday we talk about God's design for children and how children are truly a blessing from the Lord. Even though our culture seems to look at children as an accessory to either have or get rid of, God sees children as a blessing and as an opportunity for discipleship. We also looked at the great joy of adoption and how we can pursue adoption of children since God has adopted us through Jesus Christ.

We Believe in the Family | Part 2. Sexuality, Gender, Manhood, & Womanhood
    Series: We Believe
    we believe sermon series
We began our 2nd part in what We Believe about the Family. We discussed the issue in our culture where feelings and experiences determine what truth is. It is the Scripture that we must interpret the world around us, especially when it comes to our views of gender and sexuality. God designed human beings to be either male or female with having full equality in their nature but having distinct, complementary roles. The Fall has given us a broken sexuality where we distort God's design but for those who trust in Christ we are being renewed after the image of God.

The Ultimate Storm Chaser | John 6:15-21
    Series: I AM
    I AM sermon-01
This Sunday we looked at a very familiar story of Jesus walking on the water. We discussed two very important ideas in this passage: Jesus is the 'I AM' and we can trust him no matter the circumstances. Even when a dangerous storm was coming to destroy the disciples on the boat, the reality of Jesus being the 'I AM' brought comfort to their fear. We must respond by accepting Jesus for who he is as the 'I AM', and we can have hope that he calms our fears.

    I AM sermon-01
This Sunday in John we looked at the famous story of jesus feeding the 5,000. We learned that we can't really understand this story without taking all of chapter 5 to understand the importance of what Jesus is doing and his connection to Moses. When Jesus feeds the 5,000 the people ask if this is the prophet that has come into the world. We can't know what that means unless we know about the promise that God gave when he said that there would come another prophet like Moses. Moses gave food in the wilderness to Israel and now Jesus is giving food to the 5,000 by his own power. Jesus shows himself to be the better Moses.

We Believe in the Family | Part 1. God’s Design For Marriage
    Series: We Believe
    we believe sermon series
This week we heard what We Believe about God's design for the family and looked specifically at marriage. In our culture the Biblical idea of marriage is under attacked. Our culture tells that marriage is about what makes us happy. We learned from Ephesians 5 that marriage isn't about our happiness but about serving the Lord and having marriage be a picture of the gospel.

The Old Testament is All About Jesus | John 5:30-47
    Series: I AM
    I AM sermon-01
This Sunday we talked about who is a witness of the Lord Jesus Christ. In this part of John we see the Jews questioning Jesus' authority and Jesus tries to show them that their are others who are witnesses of him. He especially wants them to understand that the entire Old Testament bears witness to who he is as the Messiah. The Jews were missing the point of Moses' teaching and that all of the Scriptures point to the fulfillment of the Messiah. The New Testament is the place where we learn about Jesus being that Messiah.

We Believe in Religious Liberty For All
    Series: We Believe
    we believe sermon series
This Sunday we talked about what We Believe about religious liberty. It may be a surprise to some but Baptists have historically always believed in religious liberty and always believed that their should be a separation between the church and the state. We have believed this because Scripture tells us that no government should impose a religion on to any person. All people must respond to the gospel individually and personally. This makes the proclaiming of the gospel extremely important to Christians, because people must hear the good news in order to respond personally to Jesus.
