Thirsty For A Drink: Part 3 | John 4:1-42
Series: I AM
I AM sermon-01
We finish our last sermon on the story of the women at the well in John's Gospel focusing on how Jesus is the savior of the world. In this story once the women goes away to tell everyone about what Jesus had told her and confessing he was the Christ, others come to see Jesus and ask him to stay longer. Eventually the others who came to see Jesus starting to believe him to be the Messiah for themselves. This story really highlights the idea of racial reconciliation that Jesus comes to bring between Jews and Gentiles. Jesus Christ is indeed the savior of the world as he has come to save his people from their sins, not just the Jews but also the Gentiles who by faith trust in the work of Jesus on the cross.

    Series: We Believe

This Sunday we went over what We Believe about the End Times or what theology calls Eschatology. There are differing opinions about the End Times but we know that the Lord Jesus Christ will return, there will be a perfect judgement, believers will be brought into life with the Lord while unbelievers will be brought into death in Hell. We also considered the doctrine of Hell, a doctrine that is being abandoned by Christians, but a robust doctrine of Hell is what helps us to see how good the news of Jesus Christ coming to pay the punishment we deserve really is.

This Sunday we looked again at the story of the Woman at the Well but focused in on the middle part of the story. In this story we see the great power that Jesus has to know everything about this woman, and to know everything about us. This woman had a desire for water that would keep leaving her unsatisfied and coming to the well always for more water. We learn that Jesus as the Messiah sent from God has come to bring us living water so that we may be truly satisfied. Jesus as the Messiah is not only coming to bring living water but also to bring a change in how we worship because through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit dwelling in us it won't matter where we worship. The worship of the church doesn't happen when they meet in a certain building but when God's people come together and Jesus is with them.

This Sunday we go over what We Believe about the Lord's Day. Here we seek to answer the questions for why we gather on a Sunday and what is the reason behind this. We learned that we gather on Sunday because of the resurrection, because the resurrection changes everything, including what day we worship the Lord. When Jesus rose from the dead proving he is the Messiah, the disciples and the early church lived in light of that. Since Jesus rose again on a Sunday the church of the Lord Jesus Christ met on Sunday to celebrate the resurrection by breaking bread, being taught from God's word, fellowshipping, praying, and supporting each other. While the original Sabbath represented the completion of God's created work, the Lord's Day represents the completion of God's redemptive work through Christ.

This Sunday we tackle most of chapter 4 where we read about Jesus and the woman at the well. Here Jesus meets with a woman that Jews did not associate with, Samaritans were seen as half-Jew and had theological differences with Jews. Yet, Jesus meets with her, he knows everything about her, and he tells her that he is the Messiah and that one day all those who follow the Messiah will not worship in one location but will worship God in Spirit and in truth.

    Series: We Believe
    we believe sermon series
This Sunday we tackled the statement from the BFM 2000 on the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God has been misunderstood for a long time and sometimes we can be too "Kingdom focused" and miss other important themes of Scripture. We learned that the Kingdom of God is God's rule and reign over the world. God exercises this reign generally since he is the creator of the world and particularly now as people submit themselves to his reign. God's plan is to fully bring the Kingdom of God to earth and restore this broken world that has opposed his reign. Christians share in Kingdom work as the proclaim the glories of Christ throughout the world.

This Sunday we move on to the next section of John 3 and finish up the chapter. Here we learn about one of John the Baptist's great statements about Jesus being greater. John proclaims that in order for Christ to be greater he must be lesser, or John must decrease in order for Christ to increase. John affirms that he is not the Christ but continues to point to the one who is the Christ and that believing in him we can have eternal life and security from the wrath of God.

VBS Family Sunday | The Everlasting Way
    Series: VBS
We just had a great week of VBS where we learned that Jesus sees, knows, and loves us. This Sunday we looked at our key verse from VBS to see how Jesus leads us in the everlasting way. It is only by the work of Jesus Christ on the cross that he can remove any offensive ways in us and lead us in the everlasting way. We must repent and believe in Jesus in order to receive his gift of salvation, and to recognize him as Lord to lead us in the everlasting way.

    I AM sermon-01
We finish up the story of Jesus and Nicodemus highlighting the fact that we are condemned because our nature is to love the darkness rather than the light. We avoid so many things in life that show us the light because we have chosen to run away from the light and hide in the darkness. It is only through the work of Christ that he exposes the darkness and brings us into the light.

    Series: We Believe
    we believe sermon series
This Sunday we learned about what We Believe about the church. Jesus spoke about how he would build his church and give his people authority as they represent the Kingdom on earth. We learned that there are three marks of the church: 1. The right preaching of the Word, 2. The right administration of the Ordinances, and 3. The right practice of Church Discipline. These three marks define a true church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This Sunday we tackle again John 3:1-21. Samuel focused on the fact that we are condemned unless we believe in Christ. It is only faith in Christ that we can receive eternal life, that we can be born again to see the Kingdom of God. Luckily, God has so loved the world that he has given his son that we don't have to be condemned.

We Believe in God’s Purpose of Grace
    Series: We Believe
    we believe sermon series
This Sunday we talked about what we believe about God's purpose of grace, dealing with some controversial issues like election and predestination. We understand that we have to have some doctrine of election because the Bible clearly teaches it. We believe that God has set his love upon his own people before the foundation of the world and has chosen them in Christ as Ephesians 1 tells us. God gives us great grace not because of who we are or what we have done but simply because God is a loving and gracious.

We pick in the third chapter of John which tells us about the story of Nicodemus. This passage explains that no one can see the Kingdom of God (=God's saving rule and reign over his people) unless they are born again, that is, spiritually resurrected.

We Believe in Observing Baptism & The Lord’s Supper
    Series: We Believe
    we believe sermon series
We believe in practicing the only two ordinances of the church; baptism and the Lord's Supper. These ordinances are symbols of the gospel and our unity as a church. Baptism shows a believer who has died in a death like Christ but who has been raised to walk in a new life following Jesus all their days. The Lord's Supper is for those who are baptized believers that they may take part in a memorial meal for what Christ has done by having his body broken and his blood poured out for his people.

    I AM sermon-01
We pick up John again this week as we finish out chapter 2 and move on to chapter 3. We learn the issues that keep us from having deeper faith in God. Deeper faith can only come from God as he brings spiritual life into a person through the Spirit of God. Miracles, signs, and wonders are not sufficient to ground our faith in Jesus, we need God to work his sovereign grace in our life.
