The Old Testament is All About Jesus | John 5:30-47
Series: I AM
I AM sermon-01
This Sunday we talked about who is a witness of the Lord Jesus Christ. In this part of John we see the Jews questioning Jesus' authority and Jesus tries to show them that their are others who are witnesses of him. He especially wants them to understand that the entire Old Testament bears witness to who he is as the Messiah. The Jews were missing the point of Moses' teaching and that all of the Scriptures point to the fulfillment of the Messiah. The New Testament is the place where we learn about Jesus being that Messiah.

    Two Resurrections | John 5:16-29
    Series: I AM
    I AM sermon-01
This Sunday we studied more of John chapter 5 and saw how Jesus responded to the religious leaders who were mad at him for healing a man on the Sabbath. To make matters worse, Jesus equates himself with God and this makes the Jews want to kill him even more. They knew that for Jesus to say such a thing about himself was blasphemy if it wasn't true, but it also would mean that he would have divine authority. Moreover, Jesus talks about two kinds of resurrections, one to life and one to death. The reality is that if we trust who Jesus is and that he is indeed the Son of God, God in human form, then we can have confidence that we will have a resurrection to life.

Sin No More | John 5:9-15
    Series: I AM
    I AM sermon-01
This Sunday we learned more about the story of the sick men waiting to be healed. Here we see that Jesus is the one who can make anyone broken whole again by his power. We see that when the Jews criticized the man for carrying his bed on the Sabbath that legalism kills while grace heals. We must not expect people to have all their life together perfectly in order to be a part of this church. We also learned from this story that the very power that makes us whole is also the power to change us to be made more holy. Jesus commanded the man to sin no more, and he commands the same to us.

    I AM sermon-01
This week we get to the 5th chapter of John. In this section of Scripture we learn about the sick man that Jesus heals. In all the healing sections of John we see the faith of those whom Jesus heals. This is a pattern for all those who come into contact with Jesus and his word, we must trust him completely. It is becuase of our sin and the sin which effects this world that we are broken people. We often do cry out at times and ask how can I be made whole? Luckily, the Bible points us to the only person who can make us whole, Jesus Christ.

Believing Without Seeing | John 4:43-54
    Series: I AM
    I AM sermon-01
This Sunday we finish the fourth chapter of John by examining the truth of believing without seeing. We live in a culture where we can only believe that which is visible, that which can be seen. Yet Jesus calls us to trust him and his word without any promise of any visible sign or miracle. We learned that we are truly blessed if we have not seen and yet have still believed.

    I AM sermon-01
We finish our last sermon on the story of the women at the well in John's Gospel focusing on how Jesus is the savior of the world. In this story once the women goes away to tell everyone about what Jesus had told her and confessing he was the Christ, others come to see Jesus and ask him to stay longer. Eventually the others who came to see Jesus starting to believe him to be the Messiah for themselves. This story really highlights the idea of racial reconciliation that Jesus comes to bring between Jews and Gentiles. Jesus Christ is indeed the savior of the world as he has come to save his people from their sins, not just the Jews but also the Gentiles who by faith trust in the work of Jesus on the cross.

This Sunday we looked again at the story of the Woman at the Well but focused in on the middle part of the story. In this story we see the great power that Jesus has to know everything about this woman, and to know everything about us. This woman had a desire for water that would keep leaving her unsatisfied and coming to the well always for more water. We learn that Jesus as the Messiah sent from God has come to bring us living water so that we may be truly satisfied. Jesus as the Messiah is not only coming to bring living water but also to bring a change in how we worship because through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit dwelling in us it won't matter where we worship. The worship of the church doesn't happen when they meet in a certain building but when God's people come together and Jesus is with them.

This Sunday we tackle most of chapter 4 where we read about Jesus and the woman at the well. Here Jesus meets with a woman that Jews did not associate with, Samaritans were seen as half-Jew and had theological differences with Jews. Yet, Jesus meets with her, he knows everything about her, and he tells her that he is the Messiah and that one day all those who follow the Messiah will not worship in one location but will worship God in Spirit and in truth.

This Sunday we move on to the next section of John 3 and finish up the chapter. Here we learn about one of John the Baptist's great statements about Jesus being greater. John proclaims that in order for Christ to be greater he must be lesser, or John must decrease in order for Christ to increase. John affirms that he is not the Christ but continues to point to the one who is the Christ and that believing in him we can have eternal life and security from the wrath of God.

    I AM sermon-01
We finish up the story of Jesus and Nicodemus highlighting the fact that we are condemned because our nature is to love the darkness rather than the light. We avoid so many things in life that show us the light because we have chosen to run away from the light and hide in the darkness. It is only through the work of Christ that he exposes the darkness and brings us into the light.

This Sunday we tackle again John 3:1-21. Samuel focused on the fact that we are condemned unless we believe in Christ. It is only faith in Christ that we can receive eternal life, that we can be born again to see the Kingdom of God. Luckily, God has so loved the world that he has given his son that we don't have to be condemned.

We pick in the third chapter of John which tells us about the story of Nicodemus. This passage explains that no one can see the Kingdom of God (=God's saving rule and reign over his people) unless they are born again, that is, spiritually resurrected.

We pick up John again this week as we finish out chapter 2 and move on to chapter 3. We learn the issues that keep us from having deeper faith in God. Deeper faith can only come from God as he brings spiritual life into a person through the Spirit of God. Miracles, signs, and wonders are not sufficient to ground our faith in Jesus, we need God to work his sovereign grace in our life.
